Sample of past commissions and testimonials:
"I commissioned Cathy to concept and paint a lion and this is the end result. A masterpiece! 'King' symbolizes everything that I am. Strength, courage, passion, kind, giving and loyal. The scar represents past failures. The smile represents new opportunities and adventures."
- Hong L.
"My SeeWhyZhang paintings are beautiful I love them all! I had a hippo, elephant and lion done to represent each of my three children. Thank you, I can't wait to see them and frame them!"
- Robbie K.
"Working with Cathy as the illustrator of my book was genuinely a pleasant, rewarding experience. In addition to being a gifted painter, she is able to take abstract concepts and ideas, collaborate to improve them, and translate those concepts into beautiful works of art. My book is a more interesting and compelling read with Cathy's paintings, and I look forward to working with her on future projects!"
"I had a terrible iPhone photo of my husband and our new baby cuddling together on a messy couch that I nevertheless loved because they were unintentionally sleeping in the exact same position! I asked Cathy to reinterpret it as a watercolor and gave it to my husband on his first Father's Day. The painting turned out beautifully and he teared up upon receiving it! "
- Dani F.
"My husband’s 50th birthday was approaching and I was stumped trying to come up with a unique, personal, meaningful yet fun gift for him to mark his big day. After I saw Cathy’s whimsical and creative style, a thought came to me. Despite getting married in the short time between our initial contact and his birthday, Cathy had completed my piece in mere days. She included many of his favorite sports and memorable activities from the past half century. We both love it and it looks perfect in our home!
I am looking ahead at my calendar for future events or celebrations just so I can share her wonderful talent with others! I am so glad to see you have recognized your true passion and are being rewarded for devoting your time to what brings you joy!"
- Holly H.
"I love Cathy's modern style and fun use of color, so I knew a custom piece would be perfect in our baby boy's nursery. Our mama and baby giraffe piece was inspired by our recent trip to the Serengeti and she interpreted our vision perfectly. We couldn't be happier and know he will enjoy it for years to come."
- Caroline J.

The conception of your custom art piece begins with getting to know you (or the painting recipient), your inspirations and ideas. Once we have agreed on a commission, you are welcome to send photo references and share your desired color palette.
A light pencil sketch will be prepared for approval or revision before I start painting. Naturally, revisions are only possible during the pencil sketch phase.
A turnaround time will be provided before sketch begins. Special arrangements can be made for urgent projects. I will do my best to communicate my timeline with you.
During the painting process, one WIP (Work in Progress) photo can be requested. However, some clients like to be completely surprised.
All original paintings are made on 140 lb. watercolor paper. Finished art will be stretched and packed in a crystal clear protective coating to prepare its journey to your doorsteps.
Ask me about custom frames. I have partnered with Framebridge who provides modern, high quality and convenient framing without either of us leaving our house.
